The José Borges de Macedo square is a historical revitalized area that was created under a city ordinance of 1963, in honor of the first mayor of Curitiba (1853).
In 1994, the "Arches of Pelourinho" was built to houses newsstands, florists and a coffee shop and in 1996 the Erbo Stenzel sculpture "Maria Lata D'Água" was transferred to the fountain of the square.
