Under the Baron

Despite the square of the picture was named after Generoso Marques (the first republican president of Paraná), the statue that stands in the square represents the Rio Branco Baron.
The place is very nice to sit and enjoy the movement, the flower beds, the "Paço da Liberdade" or just for a chat with friends, as people of the photo, under the indifferent gaze of the Baron and his pigeons.

Generoso Marques Square

The name of the square is a tribute to Generoso Marques Parana (1844-1928), the 1st Provincial Republican President, elected by the Constituent Assembly of Parana in 1891. The Generoso Marques Square is surrounded by old buildings from the period of eclecticism, one of which bearing the inscription " Tigre Royal". Across the square stands the Paço da Liberdade. At that square we will also find the statue of the Barão do Rio Branco, a great Brazilian who during the first republican period (until 1930) resolved almost all issues of borders with other countries.
