Four towers

From the top of the arches of the ruins of São Francisco in Curitiba, the picture shows four towers, which are from the more distant to the closest one: the tower of the Curitiba memorial, the tower of the Ordem Church, the tower of the Rosário Church and the tower of the First Presbyterian Church . In the midst of all this part of the crafts fair stalls.

Today in Brazil we celebrate the Mother's Day. Congratulations to all the mothers of the world.

This craftsman was on a such happy conversation with a friend that caught my attention. I made the picture and he asked if I was photographing him or his work. I replied that I tried to photograph his joy.

Theme day: Statues

This is a picture of a statue known as the “Drooling Horse” (the official name is “The Memory Fountain”). It is said to be the most popular street work of art in Curitiba because 18,000 people watch it every Sunday. The visit to the statue is not intentional since all those people are there for the Largo da Ordem crafts fair, but anyway, it makes the Droolong Horse very popular. The sculpture was created by the artist Ricardo Tod in 1995.

Bonsai

A bonsai should be an artistic replica of a natural tree in miniature. Must simulate the growth patterns and the effects of gravity on the branches, besides the marks of time and general structure of the branches. Essentially it is a work of art produced by man through specialized care.

Despite the strong association between the cultivation of bonsai and Japanese culture, the Chinese were actually the first to cultivate trees and shrubs in ceramic pots. There is evidence that as early as 200 AD the Chinese grew potted plants (better known as Penjing) as the practice of the activity of gardening.

As the Japanese colony in Curitiba is large, certainly people and companies specializing in Ikebana and Bonsai are easy to find, like this man who sells bonsai at the Largo da Ordem Crafts Fair.

Colored Curtain

Last Sunday was a very sunny and inviting day to a new series of photos of the Crafts Fair at Largo da Ordem and especially for shooting the mosque of Curitiba (already posted) and the reopened Casa Romário Martins (future post).

Meanwhile, here's a photo of an artisan who uses a variety of colors in her work, which seemed to have a strong indigenous inspiration.

Enjoying life with friends

From inside of a bus I started taking photos of these guys, who after the end of the Largo da Ordem Handicrafts Fair, continued over there playing music, enjoying the friends and having beers. Realizing that I was shooting, they posed and seemed to be quite happy.

The Hippies are back

I have already been to the Largo da Ordem Crafts Fair at 7 AM, when the tents are being assembled and some bohemians used to wander around; at 10 AM, when every street is crowded with tourists, Curitibanos, vendors, artists; And after lunch, when most of the tents were dismantled and the handicrafts removed. One day after lunch, I met these girls who seem to come from a woodstock movie, occupying an empty tent, trying to sell their own products. Once I had not shown any interest, they asked me to take a picture of them and also asked me not to forget to send the pictures to one of the girls e-mail (very modern hippies). It reminds me of the old name that this fair was once known: The Hippie Handicrafts Little Fair.

Books sale!

Besides the handicrafts of the Largo da Ordem Fair, we will also find the shops that sell used books at low prices and also the famous pads that are extended on the floor and where well kept books as exposed and sold for very attractive prices.

Largo da Ordem Crafts Fair - Part 3

Today the Largo da Odem Crafts Fair is coordinated by the Curitiba Department of Tourism and its stallholders properly recorded. It is considered one of the biggest and best crafts fairs of the Brazil.

So take your time, wake up very early, wear light clothes (in the summer) and confort shoes and prepare yourself for hours of fun, walking among the crowd and enjoying great stuff. I bet you won't leave the place without something (sometimes useless) in your hands.

Largo da Ordem Crafts Fair - Part 1

A common pleasure in Curitiba is visiting the crafts fair at the Largo da Ordem on a Sunday morning (just like today). Besides the opportunity to buy crafts for attractive prices, you will also enjoy cultural events, have some nice snacks and see crowds of interesting people.

This democratic and relaxed fair happens every Sunday in the Historical Section of Curitiba. Initially occupying just the Largo da Ordem, now it spread to more than 1.5 km of the old town streets. In addition to nearly 2,000 tents of crafts, you will find art galleries, book stores, exhibition of old cars, bars and restaurants. It is a weekly event that you just can't miss.

Since I have more stories to tell about this fair and more interesting pictures, I will split this theme in 3 parts.
